Your Opportunity:

As a Registered Nurse in the Provincial Notifiable Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Program, you will play a crucial role in enhancing public health through the provision of STI-related services. Reporting to the Associate Manager, your responsibilities will include health assessments, screening, diagnosis, treatment of STI/HIV, and monitoring lab results. Additionally, you will provide client counseling and education on STI/HIV prevention, engage in contact tracing/partner notification, and collaborate with healthcare resources to ensure comprehensive care.

You will be expected to participate in outreach activities, establish relationships within the community, and support the integration of clinical practices to reduce STI and HIV in Alberta. This role also involves working within an expanded scope of nursing practice, responding to STI and HIV investigations, and collaborating with various stakeholders including community physicians, outreach facilities, First Nations communities, and correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health assessments, STI/HIV screenings, and provide appropriate treatments.
  • Interpret lab results and provide necessary follow-ups.
  • Counsel and educate clients on STI/HIV prevention and promote linkages to healthcare resources.
  • Engage in contact tracing and partner notification to control the spread of infections.
  • Maintain relationships within the community to enhance STI program effectiveness.
  • Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies to reduce STI/HIV incidence.

Qualifications:

Certification as a nursing education program graduate. Proactive or eligible to apply for registration and a practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Currently, the healthcare provider is certified in basic cardiac life support (BCLS-HCP).

The successful completion of the ensuing complimentary courses will be required if the applicant has not registered as a nurse within the past five (5) years. You can access Chapters 1–4 of the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification and CRNA Medication Management.

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • If inactive as an RN for the past five years, completion of CRNA Medication Management and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.
  • Minimum of three years of public health experience within the last five years.
  • Experience in contact tracing and partner notification.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Strong communication skills and knowledge of population health.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and rural communities, outreach work, and harm reduction.

Preferred:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
  • At least two years of experience in an STI Clinic or Sexual Health within the last four years.
  • Experience with phlebotomy and collection of throat and rectal swabs.
  • Proficiency in using CDOM/Connect Care and Microsoft Office programs.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Minimum Salary: $39.21/hour
  • Maximum Salary: $51.46/hour
  • Additional compensation includes a Northern Allowance of up to $6,300 annually and a Retention Payment of up to $2,500 for full-time employees.
  • Temporary housing (up to 3 months) and relocation assistance may be available based on eligibility.
  • Additional benefits include five days of paid leave for professional development for employees with over one year of service.

  • Hours per Shift: 7.5
  • Shifts per Cycle: 60
  • Shift Pattern: Days and Evenings
  • Days Off: As Per Rotation
  • Length of Shift Cycle: 12 weeks
  • Vehicle Requirement: Driver’s License, Vehicle Required
