Kuwait Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah breathes his last at 86

Kuwait’s reigning monarch, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, has died at the age of 86, as officially announced by the Middle Eastern nation on Saturday. The announcement was made through a statement broadcast on Kuwaiti state TV, which reported, “His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, has passed away,” following the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an.

In November of this year, the octogenarian ruler had been hospitalized for an urgent health issue, and he had previously traveled to the United States for medical examinations in 2021. His declining health has raised concerns, coinciding with internal power struggles in Kuwait.

The passing of Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah has prompted condolences from various countries. He ascended to the throne after the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, who passed away at the age of 91.
